Rules for Makers

Makers may choose to participate in one or more of the following ways:

An Exhibitor
All Day.

Show your stuff in our exhibit area for the entire day where guests can enjoy your work, ask questions, or just observe your craft in process. Hands-on experience is encouraged, so consider sharing projects you don’t mind people getting up close and personal with, or lead visitors in trying some of your skills on demonstration pieces (think of this a little more like having a booth at a science fair where people wander over and you stay and chat).
A Blitz Skill Share Presenter
15 minutes.

Do you have a special skill, trick, technique, and interesting life-hack that can be used to make your projects easier, quicker, or more efficient? Share your techniques with others in a mini-presentation. This differs from the longer Skill Share in that it can be taught or demonstrated quickly in a matter of minutes, and does not involve a lot of set-up time, and requires less in-depth explanation of technique or tools.
A MakerTalk Presenter
45-60 minutes.

Do you have a passion for your projects and want to share your process on how it works? Take to the Presentation Stage to become the teacher with your own TED Talk-style lecture and demonstration. Talk in-depth on your topic for up to an hour; including techniques, process, and tips. If you wish, field questions from an intrigued audience of hobbyists and help provide the starting block for a “make, fix, do” spirit in your community!

All Makers must follow these rules:

Exhibits shall meet the following requirements:
- Feature your DIY process with hands on and/or interactive elements.
- Staffed and open during official advertised hours, 10am-3pm.
- Content shall be appropriate for viewing by all ages (family-friendly).
- Help promote MakerFest within your networks of friends and organizations (examples, share on Facebook, post on websites and newsletters, etc).
Age Restrictions
Makers under the age of 16 must have a supervising adult present for the duration of the event.
Amenities
- 10’ x 12’ space with one 6’ foot table, two chairs are provided. Feel free to bring additional tables/chairs to customize to your needs.
- Wi-Fi access.
- Access to electric outlets is available, but not unlimited. We will do the best we can for those who need electricity.
- Bring any extension cords and power strips that you may require.
Arrival and Departure
- Makers may begin setting up at 8am, two hours before the event.
- Makers may not begin teardown until 3:00pm.
- Areas must be clean and litter free before leaving.
Merchandise
Makers are permitted to sell items, and promote businesses/organizations; within defined parameters:

Makers may not offer food or beverages for sale.
- No “Garage Sale” or “flea market” items are allowed.
- Space dedicated to merchandise promotion shall not consist of more than one third of the total exhibit area.
- All proceeds from sales go to the Maker.
- Collection, reporting, and payment of Washington State Sales Tax is solely the responsibility of the Maker. Organizers accept no responsibility for sales tax collection.
- Organizers reserve the right to remove any item deemed objectionable for any reason.
Safety & Security
- No smoking or alcoholic beverages permitted at any time.
- Open flames are strictly prohibited.
- No caustic chemicals allowed inside.
- No nails, screws, or staples may be put in the walls, floor, or ceiling.
- Makers are responsible for protecting their property from damage or loss.
- Walkways must remain clear at all times.
- Food preparation is OK for demonstration purposes, but cannot be shared with the public for safety reasons.
